TennesseeAbout the Job:PURPOSE STATEMENT:
The Chief Medical / Clinical Officer (CMCO) is a senior executive
leader responsible for providing medical leadership to enable
delivery of the highest standard of clinical care and patient
safety. The CMCO oversees and ensures quality care by bridging
institutional silos to align operations with clinical excellence.
This role promotes standardized care delivery through the
development and dissemination of clinical practice guidelines and
evidence-based practices. Additionally, the CMCO drives innovation
and clinical strategy by staying up to date on current research and
emerging trends in behavioral health. Reports directly to the Chief
Executive Officer (CEO) and collaborates closely with operations
and division leadership to align clinical excellence with
organizational goals, regulatory compliance, and industry best
practices.Roles and Responsibilities:ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Design, implement, and oversee evidence-based, patient-centered
clinical programs for behavioral health.
- Evaluate and enhance existing clinical protocols and pathways
to improve patient outcomes.
- Introduce innovative treatment modalities and ensure the
organization stays at the forefront of advancements in behavioral
health and addiction medicine.
- Lead the organization's commitment to deliver high-quality,
patient-centered care across all programs.
- Develop and implement robust quality assurance and performance
improvement initiatives using data, clinical and operational
metrics .
- Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) related to clinical
outcomes , quality of care , patient satisfaction, and compliance.
- Promote a culture of patient safety, accountability, and
continuous improvement in all clinical operations.
- Serve as the primary medical and clinical advisor to the
executive leadership team and board of directors.
- Work collaboratively across a matrixed environment with
operations , division leadership , and medical directors to ensure
seamless integration of clinical and operational functions.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with medical staff,
clinicians, and external stakeholders.
- Provide mentorship and leadership to clinical teams, fostering
a culture of patient safety and quality excellence and professional
development and continuous learning.
- Ensure all clinical services comply with state, federal, and
accreditation standards, including HIPAA and Joint Commission
requirements.
- Develop and oversee risk management programs to minimize
liabilities and enhance patient safety.
- Serve as the clinical point of contact for audits, inspections,
and compliance reviews.
- Shape and implement the organization's clinical strategy in
alignment with long-term business goals.
- Stay at the forefront of emerging trends in behavioral
healthcare, integrating new research, technologies, and treatment
methodologies.
- Advocate for policies, partnerships, and initiatives that
enhance access and quality of behavioral health.
- Represent the organization at industry conferences, events, and
with regulatory bodies.
- Strengthen partnerships with external organizations, including
academic institutions, regulatory and research bodies, and
healthcare systems, to advance clinical innovation.
- Provide direct oversight of the Quality & Patient Safety
team.EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
- Ten or more years of experience in clinical leadership roles,
ideally within behavioral health settings. Experience with
multi-site and/or multi-state healthcare organization(s) is
preferred.
- Demonstrated expertise in clinical operations, program design,
quality improvement, and regulatory compliance.
- Strong interpersonal and leadership skills with a proven
ability to build collaborative relationships across diverse teams
and stakeholders , with the ability to inspire and drive
organizational change .
- Experience with Lean Six Sigma or other quality improvement
frameworks.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making
abilities.
- Exercise sound judgment in responding to inquiries; understands
when to escalate inquiries to the next level.
- Self-motivated with strong organizational skills and superior
attention to detail.
- Must be able to manage multiple tasks/projects simultaneously
within inflexible time frames . Ability to adapt to frequent
priority changes.
- Capable of working within established policies, procedures and
practices prescribed by the organization.
- Willingness and ability to travel extensively across the
organization's multi-state
footprint.LICENSES/DESIGNATIONS/CERTIFICATIONS:
- Medical degree (MD or DO) with a current, unrestricted medical
license.
- Board certification in psychiatry, addiction medicine, or a
related field is required .SUPERVISORY REQUIREMENTS:Five or more
years' supervisory/management experience required .Why Summit
