Job Description:
This position is within the Office of Outdoor Recreation -
Office of Strategy and Planning under the Bureau of Conservation,
and reports to the GIS Manager. The mission of the GIS Program is
to empower the Bureau of Parks & Conservation to make smart,
data-driven decisions. An employee in this position is responsible
for managing the Bureau of Parks & Conservation’s geographic
information system; producing maps and other deliverables as
requested; and contributing to GIS projects including, but not
limited to, building custom GIS tools and solutions, and applying
spatial analysis. An employee in this position will collaborate
with Tennessee State Parks operational staff, including Park
Rangers, as well as other divisions within the Bureau, including
Facilities Management, Marketing, and others. This position will
work primarily in an remote environment with potential monthly
meetings in Nashville, Tennessee with periodic field work required
across the state. Knowledge & Skills The successful candidate will
have excellent written and verbal communication, presentation, and
interpersonal skills; be a creative problem solver and
self-starter, able to work independently with minimal direction;
and have the flexibility to work effectively on multiple
simultaneous projects with a number of internal and external
stakeholders. Skills Required: · Proficiency with Esri software,
including ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online · Proficiency in creating,
editing, managing, and publishing GIS feature data, both in a
geodatabase environment and on the cloud · Proficiency in
cartographic design · Working knowledge of geospatial analysis
methods and ESRI GIS applications development · Working knowledge
of Microsoft Office applications, especially Word, Excel, and
Outlook Skills Preferred: · Working knowledge of Adobe Creative
Suite and Avenza MAPublisher · Working knowledge of Arcade and/or
JavaScript programming for GIS applications and API’s integration
Education & Experience Graduation from an accredited college or
university with a bachelor’s degree in Geography, Earth Science,
Data Science, or a related field and 2 years of relevant work
experience is required. Qualifying professional experience in GIS
may substitute for the education requirement on a year for year
basis, to a maximum of four years. Qualifying graduate-level
coursework in GIS may substitute for the work experience
requirement on a year for year basis, to a maximum of two
years.
