The Director of Environmental Health and Safety plans,
implements, directs and evaluates Tennessee Technological
University's environmental, occupational health and safety program.
This position is responsible for developing, managing and improving
programs in safety and accident prevention, industrial hygiene,
hazardous waste, environmental sanitation, fire prevention,
biological and chemical safety, emergency preparedness, workers
compensation, accident investigations and providing extensive
training to educate students, faculty, and staff on the importance
of adhering to University and environmental protection programs.
This position provides consultative assistance and technical
guidance to senior management and administrators on department
strategies and objectives and briefs administrators on critical and
sensitive issues. This position develops training programs to
increase safety awareness among the campus community. This position
is responsible for safety and regulatory compliance and maintains
records for all EHS safety compliance programs. Additionally, the
Director will lead a team that works in conjunction with University
Police to plan, program, communicate, and coordinate all activities
related to University Emergency Planning, and act as manager of the
University Emergency Operations Center during activation. The staff
prepares, maintains and updates the University Emergency Operations
Plan (EOP). Coordinate building, department, college, and area
response plans and assimilate them into the EOP. Plan, coordinate
and oversee emergency exercises, both 'table top' and full
scenario. Participate in city, county and state emergency planning
programs, training and exercises. Prepare training and educational
materials to assist the University community in becoming prepared
for a wide variety of scenarios.
