This role supports patients and their families while under going
radiation oncology treatment. Position collaborates with a
multidisciplinary team and reports to the Director of Cancer
Services. Clinician has the skills to communicate effectively with
patients, the team, physicians and other departments. Is competent
and up to date in the role of a radiation oncology clinician.
Care Delivery/Therapeutic Interventions Criteria A: Adheres to
established Nursing Standards of practice to include: Assessment,
Planning, Implementation and Evaluation. Care Delivery/Therapeutic
Interventions Criteria B: Practices according to Unit-based
Protocols; refers to and utilizes appropriate resources. Care
Delivery/Therapeutic Interventions Criteria C: Administers
medication/IV solution according to Norwalk Hospital
policy/procedure and consults appropriate resources for information
as needed. Care Delivery/Therapeutic Interventions Criteria D:
Demonstrated knowledge of disease process as it related to patients
undergoing radiation oncology procedures as well as the applicaton
of care for patients undergoing specific radiation treatments
Patient/Family Education Criteria A: Assesses learning needs of
patient and family or significant others. Patient/Family Education
Criteria B: Plans and provides appropriate instruction.
Patient/Family Education Criteria C: Assesses and documents
effectiveness of teaching. Patient/Family Education Criteria D:
Provides psychosocial support to patients and their families, makes
Professional and Personal Responsibilities Criteria A:
Participates in unit-based activities and patriciates in
Nursing/Hospital Committees. Professional and Personal
Responsibilities Criteria B: Attends staff development - Continuing
Education Programs and attends JCAHO and OSHA programs annually.

local or national conferences when applicable to stay up to date on
