Job Description:

Nuvance Health has a network of convenient hospital and outpatient locations - Danbury Hospital, New Milford Hospital, Norwalk Hospital and Sharon Hospital in Connecticut, and Northern Dutchess Hospital, Putnam Hospital Center and Vassar Brothers Medical Center in New York - plus multiple primary and specialty care physician practices locations, including The Heart Center, a leading provider of cardiology care, and two urgent care offices. Non-acute care is offered through various affiliates, including the Thompson House for rehabilitation and skilled nursing services, and the Home Care organizations.

Summary:

This role supports patients and their families while under going radiation oncology treatment. Position collaborates with a multidisciplinary team and reports to the Director of Cancer Services. Clinician has the skills to communicate effectively with patients, the team, physicians and other departments. Is competent and up to date in the role of a radiation oncology clinician.

Responsibilities:

  1. Care Delivery/Therapeutic Interventions Criteria A: Adheres to established Nursing Standards of practice to include: Assessment, Planning, Implementation and Evaluation. Care Delivery/Therapeutic Interventions Criteria B: Practices according to Unit-based Protocols; refers to and utilizes appropriate resources. Care Delivery/Therapeutic Interventions Criteria C: Administers medication/IV solution according to Norwalk Hospital policy/procedure and consults appropriate resources for information as needed. Care Delivery/Therapeutic Interventions Criteria D: Demonstrated knowledge of disease process as it related to patients undergoing radiation oncology procedures as well as the applicaton of care for patients undergoing specific radiation treatments

  2. Patient/Family Education Criteria A: Assesses learning needs of patient and family or significant others. Patient/Family Education Criteria B: Plans and provides appropriate instruction. Patient/Family Education Criteria C: Assesses and documents effectiveness of teaching. Patient/Family Education Criteria D: Provides psychosocial support to patients and their families, makes referrals appropriately

  3. Professional and Personal Responsibilities Criteria A: Participates in unit-based activities and patriciates in Nursing/Hospital Committees. Professional and Personal Responsibilities Criteria B: Attends staff development - Continuing Education Programs and attends JCAHO and OSHA programs annually. Professional and Personal Responsibilities Criteria C: Attends local or national conferences when applicable to stay up to date on best practices Professional and Personal Responsibilities Criteria D: Updates local policies and procedures through approved processes when necessary to keep care consistent with best practices

  4. Quality Criteria A: Maintains a positive working environment through personal example and fostering teamwork. Quality Criteria B: Tracks patient and department outcomes as it related to role and department intiatives Quality Criteria C: Applies process improvement to daily work to improve the care of patients in the dept.

  5. Performs other duties as assigned.

  6. Fulfills all compliance responsibilities related to the position.

Other information:

Required: A minimum of one year in oncology. Must have prior radiation oncology experience. RN license in the State of CT. BSN prepared, Masters Degree a plus.

Minimum Experience: one year

Desired: Oncology Certified Nurse a plus.
